Hong Kong πŸ‡πŸ‡° & Macao πŸ‡²πŸ‡΄

The first stop on my 1 month South East Asia Tour are the special administrative regions of #China #HongKongπŸ‡πŸ‡° and #MacaoπŸ‡²πŸ‡΄. I arrived in the late afternoon and after check-in, strolled around Victoria Harbour along the Avenue of the Stars in the dark. The next day I took the ferry to Macao for a day of wandering around the World Heritage Site that is the old city, looking at it from above from the Macao Tower, and lost $100 HKD (~12€) at the roulette table, as you do (my first and likely last time in a casino). On the way back I took the bus across the 55km long bridge tunnel system with 4 artificial islands, but due to having gotten stuck in traffic, instead of enjoying a drive into the sunset, it was unfortunately already dark, so I didn’t see much of it. Still an impressive feat of engineering; it’s the longest one of its kind! And what better way to end the day than with some dim sums and another stroll across a night market. I generally walked around a lot in the city, to gardens, restaurants and just wandering into random side streets that looked interesting. On the last full day I went up to “the peak” by funicular, sent a postcard from the highest post office in HK and had a look at the famous monster buildings.
Hong Kong certainly has a lot to offer as a city, but it’s also expensive, so it’s time to move on. Considering what a massive hub it is for Asia, I suspect it’s not the last time I’m here #mar2023
